bankablecanada.com (the “Website”) is owned and operated by Bankable Ventures Alberta Ltd. (“Bankable,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), an Alberta corporation.

Bankable is committed to protecting the privacy of every individual who interacts with our Website and our services. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, who we share it with, and what rights you have regarding your information.

This policy is written in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) of Alberta and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) of Canada.

1. Accountability

Bankable has designated a Privacy Officer responsible for overseeing compliance with this Privacy Policy and applicable privacy legislation.

2. What Personal Information We Collect

The categories of personal information we collect depend on how you interact with Bankable. We collect only the information that is necessary for the specific purpose identified at the time of collection.

2.1 Website Visitors

When you browse our Website, we may automatically collect:

  • IP address and approximate geographic location
  • browser type, device type, and operating system
  • pages viewed, time spent on pages, and referral URLs
  • cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 9)

2.2 Funding Applicants (“Start Your Funding Journey”)

When you submit a funding inquiry through our Website, we collect:

  • your name, email address, phone number, and city/province
  • your company name, title/role, website, and industry
  • annual revenue, number of employees, and years in operation
  • estimated financing required, type of financing sought, and timeline
  • a written description of your financing needs

2.3 Bankable Community Members

When you join the Bankable Community, we collect:

  • your name, email address, phone number, and city/province
  • your company name, title/role, and industry
  • your current business stage
  • your selected areas of interest
  • how you heard about Bankable

2.4 Lender Network Applicants

When you apply to join the Bankable Lender Network, we collect:

  • your name, email, phone, title, and office location
  • your institution name, type, department, and website
  • your lending parameters, including deal size ranges, sector specializations, collateral preferences, credit policy details, and underwriting parameters
  • your preferred methods for receiving submissions and communication preferences

2.5 Partner Network Applicants

When you apply to join the Bankable Partner Network, we collect:

  • your name, email, phone, title, LinkedIn profile, and business address
  • your company name, website, years in operation, and number of employees
  • your primary industry, sub-industry specializations, service categories, and geographic scope
  • your professional designations, certifications, and licensing
  • your referral and collaboration preferences
  • content contribution topics and availability
  • social media handles, a short bio or tagline, and a logo or headshot image

3. How We Use Your Personal Information

We use personal information for the following purposes:

  • Providing our services: To assess financing needs, prepare lender-ready proposals, and match applicants with appropriate capital providers
  • Operating the BBX ecosystem: To facilitate introductions between Community Members, Network Partners, and Lenders based on stated expertise, industry, and needs
  • Internal matching and recommendations: To use your profile information, stated interests, and business characteristics to recommend relevant content, events, professionals, and capital sources
  • Communication: To send transactional communications related to your account, application status, or membership
  • Marketing (with consent only): To send updates about Lightning Lessons, events, articles, and Bankable news, only where you have provided explicit opt-in consent
  • Improving our services: To analyze aggregate, anonymized usage data to improve our Website, forms, content, and user experience
  • Legal and regulatory compliance: To comply with applicable laws, respond to legal processes, or protect our legal rights

4. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Bankable utilizes internal, secure AI-enabled tools to support the core operation of our services. Specifically:

  • Profile information, business characteristics, and stated interests submitted through our forms are used to run internal AI models. This is an integral part of how we match Community Members with relevant content, events, and professionals, and how we match Funding Applicants with appropriate lenders.
  • These AI tools are operated internally by Bankable. Your personal information is kept strictly confidential and is never used to train third-party or publicly available AI models (such as ChatGPT).

5. How We Share Your Personal Information

We do not sell personal information to third parties.

We may share personal information in the following limited circumstances:

  • With lenders and brokers: If you submit a funding inquiry, your application information may be shared with lenders and licensed brokers within the Bankable Lender Network for the purpose of evaluating and structuring your financing request. This sharing is a core function of our service and is disclosed to you at the time of collection.
  • With Bankable team members: Personal information may be accessed by authorized Bankable employees and contractors who require it to fulfill the purposes described in this policy.
  • With third-party service providers: We use third-party platforms to store, process, and manage data (see Section 6). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information.
  • As required by law: We may disclose personal information if required to do so by law, regulation, court order, or in connection with legal proceedings.
  • In a business transaction: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred to the acquiring entity, subject to this Privacy Policy.

6. Third-Party Service Providers

We use the following third-party services that may process, store, or transmit your personal information:

  • Kinsta, Inc.: Website hosting and security. Data is stored in various cloud-based locations.
  • Cloudflare, Inc.: Content delivery, firewall, and Turnstile bot protection. Data is processed across their Global CDN.
  • Fluent Forms (WPManageNinja): Form builder. Submissions are stored on our WordPress database (same location as our website host).
  • Notion Labs, Inc.: Internal data management. Form data is mirrored to Notion databases located in the United States.
  • Centrex Software, Inc.: Customer relationship management (CRM) platform for managing lender relationships and funding applications. Data is hosted in the United States (Microsoft Azure US-West, AWS US-East).
  • Google, Inc.: Google Workspace (email) and Google Analytics (website analytics). Data is hosted in the United States.
  • Stripe, Inc.: Payment processing for membership fees. Data is hosted in the United States.

Centrex Software maintains SOC 2 Type 2 certification. Centrex’s service provider maintains SOC 1 Type 1 & 2 and SOC 2 Type 1 & 2 certifications.

We require all third-party service providers to handle personal information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy and applicable Canadian privacy legislation.

7. Cross-Border Data Transfers

Some of our third-party service providers, including Centrex Software and Notion, are based in the United States. As a result, your personal information may be stored, processed, or accessed in the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction, including potential access by law enforcement or government authorities.

By providing your personal information to Bankable, you acknowledge and consent to the transfer, storage, and processing of your information outside of Canada for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.

We take reasonable steps to ensure that all third-party service providers maintain appropriate safeguards for the protection of personal information, regardless of where it is processed.


8. Consent

We collect, use, and disclose personal information only with your knowledge and consent, except where permitted or required by law.

  • Express consent is obtained when you actively submit a form, check a consent box, or otherwise provide your information for a stated purpose.
  • Implied consent may apply in limited circumstances, such as when you voluntarily provide a business card or initiate a business inquiry.
  • Marketing consent is always obtained separately and explicitly through an opt-in checkbox. We will never send you marketing communications without your prior consent.

You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting our Privacy Officer or by using the unsubscribe mechanism provided in our emails. Withdrawal of consent may limit our ability to provide certain services to you.


9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Our Website uses cookies and similar technologies to improve your browsing experience and to collect aggregate usage data.

  • Essential cookies are required for the proper functioning of the Website, including security, form submissions, and page loading.
  • Analytics cookies are used by Google Analytics to collect anonymized data about how visitors interact with our Website, including pages viewed, time spent, and referral sources. Google’s use of this data is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile uses cookies and browser signals to verify that form submissions are made by humans, not bots.

You may restrict the use of cookies by adjusting your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of certain features on the Website.


10. Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)

Bankable complies with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

We will only send commercial electronic messages (including marketing emails, newsletters, event invitations, and content updates) to individuals who have provided explicit opt-in consent.

Each commercial message will include:

  • clear identification of Bankable as the sender
  • valid contact information for Bankable
  • a functioning unsubscribe mechanism

Unsubscribe requests will be processed within 10 business days. Transactional messages related to your account, application, or membership (such as confirmations and status updates) are not considered commercial messages under CASL and may be sent without separate marketing consent.


11. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law.

  • Funding applications are retained for as long as the client relationship is active, plus a reasonable period thereafter.
  • Community member profiles are retained for as long as the membership is active.
  • Lender and Partner Network profiles are retained for as long as the network relationship is active.
  • Website analytics data may be retained indefinitely in anonymized, aggregate form.

When personal information is no longer required, it will be securely deleted or anonymized.


12. Data Security

We are committed to protecting your personal information through a combination of physical, technical, and administrative safeguards, including:

  • encryption of data in transit (SSL/TLS)
  • access controls limiting who can view or modify personal information
  • secure hosting through Kinsta with Cloudflare firewall protection
  • SOC 2 Type 2 certified CRM infrastructure (Centrex Software)
  • regular review of security practices and third-party provider controls

No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.


13. Data Breach Notification

In the event of a data breach that creates a real risk of significant harm to affected individuals, Bankable will:

  • notify the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta without unreasonable delay
  • notify all affected individuals as soon as feasible, including a description of the breach, what information was compromised, steps individuals should take to protect themselves, and steps Bankable is taking to prevent future breaches
  • maintain a record of all breaches, regardless of whether notification was required

14. Your Rights

Under Alberta PIPA and PIPEDA, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal information
  • Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal retention requirements
  • Withdraw consent for the collection, use, or disclosure of your personal information
  • File a complaint if you believe your privacy rights have been violated

To exercise any of these rights, contact our Privacy Officer here. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may file a complaint with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.


15. Children’s Privacy

Our services are directed to businesses and professionals and are not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 18, that data will be deleted promptly.


16. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. When significant changes are made, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be revised. We may also notify affected individuals by email where appropriate.
